Bangkok to Sa Kaeo – Day 1 – Thailand Road Trip

Started my three-week trip summer road trip around Thailand’s Isaan region today. Surprisingly I was all packed and ready to roll this morning, and got out at 9 a.m.

I had planned to go back to Rayong today, with the plan the next day to head towards Chanthaburi, and up to Sa Kaeo. There were a few things I wanted to see again, and also some new ones. Instead I decided to go straight across from Bangkok to Sa Kaeo.

The roads were good today, surprisingly. Nothing too crazy, and I reached Sa Kaeo just before 1 p.m. I had planned to stay at a Hop Inn, but with my plans changing I forgot to book a room and they were full. On a Monday night! I need to plan a little further ahead!

Found a decent room at the Golden House Hotel, but the bed is not as good. Seems okay but it is away from the “action” in Sa Kaeo.

Once I got situated, I debated whether I would just laze around the hotel room, or go to a temple I had planned to see. Laziness did not win out today!

Wat Saimai Wanaram is about 37 km from the hotel, and it was an easy drive. It’s been a bit rainy all day, but not a whole lot. Just spitting or drizzling.

At the wat it was quiet. There had been a couple people there but they soon left. This complex was surrounded by rice paddies and there was no one around. I love it when I am the only one there! It’s quiet, and I can hear the birds, insects, rain dripping from the leaves, and are those some kind of howler monkeys I can hear off in the forest?

I got my drone out and practiced with that for quite a while. It’s nice with no pressure. I know my drone is quiet and people mostly don’t care, but I don’t want to annoy anyone with it. Haven’t had a chance to look at the footage, but I think it should be good. Also got the Pocket 3 out, and my phone, and my camera. It was the full meal deal today!

I even used the new ND filters I bought for the Pocket 3, and the image on my controller for the drone convinced me I may have to shell out a few Baht for some ND filters for it too.

The mosquitoes were getting bad just as I was about to leave. Good timing! I found the More Fin Gym and Eatery. It’s an odd combination, but the food is really good, and I appreciated the air conditioning. Without a doubt, the chicken steak I had was the best I’ve had in Thailand. The chicken wings were good too.

After resting at the hotel for a bit, I decided to go for a massage. I found a place and went for a Thai massage, which I hadn’t done in a while, as my lower back was hurting today. Lately it seems like I just go for oil massage, but Thai massage was a really good choice. The massage lady did an excellent job, and I had to get her to dial the pressure back a bit! I must have slept about half the time.

Today I added two more provinces to those I have been in: Prachin Buri and Sa Kaeo. I really didn’t do anything in Prachin Buri.

Tomorrow I am on my way to Buriram, and I will be making a few stops along the way.
