I spent my day exploring Chiang Mai. It was nice not having to drive. I went down to get coffee after I woke up today, and ended up chatting with a group of Thai people in the hotel lobby. Sounds like they’re a group of health professionals from Bangkok, and they come up to Chiang Mai to work with teens. They were quite interested in my travels and that I’ve been to so many provinces in Thailand. It was a fun way to start the day!
It took me a while to get out of the hotel. I had some plans, but nearly everything got changed today, and I was unhappy about a few things, actually.
I had planned to have lunch at Je Hua Noodles, but they were closed for renovations today! Open again tomorrow! Instead I went to Stories, a breakfast favourite, for a large brunch. That was good. Oh, the stories I could tell!
I often walk by Wat Dok Kham near the Tha Phae Gate, but I don’t think I have ever been inside. Chiang Mai has so many temples, and it seems like I notice another dozen that I haven’t seen every time I come here. I could probably spend months checking them all out! It’s a nice temple. Worth a look, and it’s not huge so it doesn’t take long.
I decided to fill up the car, because my plan had been to go to Pai and back. My plans to stick around, exploring Chiang Mai for one more day ended up changing because I have to be in Bangkok a day earlier than planned. I have to pick Crystal up from the airport on Monday and not Tuesday.
So, I went back to the hotel and pondered how I was going to visit the province of Mae Hong Son without having some huge long distance drive to do on Monday. The solution I came up with is to drive southwest of Chiang Mai, into the southern end of Mae Hong Son province, and down to Mae Sot. I’ve already reserved a room at the Hop Inn there too! This should be an interesting trip and is a totally new route. It’s 7+ hours of driving, and my drive the next day is as well. Monday is not going to be a fun day.
I tried to sort out my phone data issue, but I needed to go to the mall see my phone provider. They have one location. It messed up my dinner plans to go to the Rider’s Corner Bar and Restaurant for supper, unfortunately. I ate at the mall, and did some grocery shopping for the trip ahead.
After that, I lazed around the hotel for the rest of the evening, and got ready to roll. The plan is to head out early. Not sure how early. We shall see!
