Doi Ang Khang – Timelapse

2022-10-25 by globetrotter Leave a Comment

mountain clouds at Doi Ang Hang ThailandIn northern Thailand, on the border with Myanmar in the Fang District of Chiang Mai province, is a mountain called Doi Ang Khang. It’s a beautiful mountain where a twisty road, with switchbacks and hairpin turns, takes you all the way to the top.

On my motorcycle trip in February of this year, I rode there with a friend. We found a helicopter landing pad, and it seemed like a good place for a rest, to regroup, and continue on checking out the sights on the mountain.

Today I’ll just post the time-lapse of the clouds at the mountain top. The clouds rise out of the valley, like waves crashing on the shore, and they’re blown back by the wind coming from Myanmar.

I have more photos to post, including some from a village right on the border of Myanmar. Judging by Google Maps, we were riding through Myanmar at times.

I want to go back again. We could have spent a lot longer on the mountain, as there are many things to see in this area.

The trip back down the mountain is one where you have to be careful, particularly if you have a car or scooter where you can’t gear down easily or effectively. It was easy on my big bike (Honda CB-500x), but there were a lot of people who had to pull over on the route down because they overheated their brakes. It’s easy to do! If you’re on a scooter you have to be extra careful that you don’t overheat your brakes to the point that they fail. That would not be fun at all!

If you are on a big bike, it’s a particularly fun ride down the mountain, and up, for that matter. Lots of challenging curves. Doi Ang Khang is a great place for motorcycle riding!
