I decided to go for breakfast at Oasis Cafe again, and after that I headed south of Wat Khao Takiab to explore Khao Tao beach. It’s nice, and if you don’t like people, it’s kind of ideal. There was almost no one there!
I woke up with a stiff back, but once I get moving it tends to subside. I’d say the chiropractic treatment has worked and I’m definitely feeling better! I’ve been getting massages every day, and I’ve found that to help with my back as well. I’m probably over the worst of it.
I didn’t spend a huge amount of time on the beach. I took some photos, and shot some video, but I get bored with beaches. Not far from where I was I spotted Wat Tham Khao Tao. I had forgotten that was on my list of places to see, so I made my way there. Didn’t take too long! A day exploring the temples of Hua Hin is not a bad one!
It wasn’t too busy at the wat, and parking was a bit of a pain. There’s just not much parking available there! I’m glad it wasn’t busy.
The temple complex was built on the side of the rocky hill, and the short estuary at the bottom is home to a small fishing village. It’s a picturesque place. I made my way through a small market, and out onto the observation platforms that stretch around the rocky mountain. It seems that many of the buildings here are actually memorials, with the ashes of family members collected in each one.
The views out to the sea and back towards Hua Hin are quite nice, and you can climb higher amongst the memorial structures to get a better view. Moving further along the walkway, you can see huge boulders that have split off from the mountain and been worn down by the waves. Definitely worth checking out.
I decided not to go right up to the top to see the Buddha statue. There are also other buildings near the start of the complex I will leave for a later trip. It was a hot day, and I forgot to bring my water. I was feeling the heat, and maybe a bit of dehydration, so I figured it was a better idea to come back later.
It’s quite a peaceful place, and worth coming back. I wouldn’t mind visiting during a storm. That could be interesting there!
I relaxed at the hotel for a while after the drive back, and for supper I decided to explore Soi 51. There are a lot of restaurants on this street where the Hop Inn is located, as well as bars, some massage shops, spas and, of course, a 7-11. It’s a busy area, but more steady, and not swamped by tourists. Maybe it’s not as popular as some places because the prices are a bit higher here.
I chose the Beach House Restaurant for supper. The Pad Krapao was a more reasonable price at 69 Baht. I also added stir fried vegetables with chicken. With water, the meal came to 204 Baht ($8.20 Cdn). As a bonus, I got a snack at the end of wonton wrappers cut into strips and deep fried, with salt and chili. Very tasty!
