In northern Thailand, on the border with Myanmar in the Fang District of Chiang Mai province, is a mountain called Doi Ang Khang. It’s a beautiful mountain where a twisty road, with switchbacks and hairpin turns, takes you all the way to the top. On my motorcycle trip in February of this year, I rode there with a friend. We found a helicopter landing pad, and it seemed … [Read more...] about Doi Ang Khang – Timelapse
Hong Kong Layover
Made it to Hong Kong. Wasn’t a long flight but I am exhausted. With only 4.5 hours of sleep the night before, last night I got 2 hours and 50 minutes. My Apple Watch and sleep app track it well. Not a huge layover here; just four hours. Seems like most of it has been spent walking through the airport and going through the security theatre once again. All that seems to … [Read more...] about Hong Kong Layover
Traveling to Canada – October 2023
You know, I am happy that everyone is travelling again. It’s great for the economy. People are happier. It’s great. I have to confess that there’s also a part of me that longs for travel during the “bad old days” of Covid when there were no lines, almost no one in the airport, you could stretch out across an entire row on the plane, checking in at the airport was much … [Read more...] about Traveling to Canada – October 2023
Ramp Over Canal – Samut Sakhon, Thailand
On Saturday I took my motorcycle out for a long ride to Samut Sakhon, an area we have been exploring a bit recently. It was a good day to ride, but I had a rather nerve-wracking experience mid-way through. It’s typhoon season, and I think we’re still experiencing the tail end of Typhoon Noru. It’s caused a lot of rain and flooding in Thailand, and we have had some intense … [Read more...] about Ramp Over Canal – Samut Sakhon, Thailand
Nittaya Kai Yang
Out for the afternoon and decided to stop at Nittaya Kai Yang for quick bite to eat. It’s my first time here and I had to try the Chiangmai style fried pork, which was really good! The fried rice was excellent as well. … [Read more...] about Nittaya Kai Yang
Sad News From Northeastern Thailand
We aren’t sure if this will end up in the news in North America or not, but we have already been contacted by one friend to check in on us. We thought we should let everyone know that we are ok. There was a mass murder in Northeastern Thailand this afternoon. The latest story we have read indicated at least 37 people died and 12 were injured. This all happened in the … [Read more...] about Sad News From Northeastern Thailand
Whale Watching in the Gulf of Thailand
Recently we went out and did something we’d never done before: whale watching! Most of the tours tend to be on weekends with the company we chose, but once a month they have a tour on a Monday. Perfect, as Crystal’s days off are Monday and Tuesday. We decided to spend the night at a hotel close to where the boat launch was, just because we didn’t want to have to get up … [Read more...] about Whale Watching in the Gulf of Thailand
Bangkok Street Food
Tonight we just ate local street food. We’ve got a bunch of go-to vendors that we see regularly. It had been a while since we’d had street food. It was a nice change of pace. We’ll have to walk around the neighbourhood again and see if there are more new people too. I hadn’t seen the pancake guy before. Tonight we ordered chicken and pork skewers, crab fried rice, banana … [Read more...] about Bangkok Street Food
Tuna Steak
For supper tonight we went again to Kabocha Sushi. We both ordered the tuna steak, and it was truly amazing. I could have eaten three plates of this. Even the cooked vegetables that came with it were amazing! I also enjoyed the mayonnaise for the tuna, along with a green onion purée that I put on the vegetables. To start, we had edamame and miniature fish skeletons. I don’t … [Read more...] about Tuna Steak
Exploring Samut Sakon, Thailand
An opportunity recently arose to explore a different part of Bangkok and I, of course, jumped at it. A friend had an appointment in the southwest part of Bangkok, so I offered to give them a ride. While they were busy there, I continued on to Samut Sakhon, which is along the coast. I’ve been exploring Google Maps for interesting things to see, and Wat Noi Nang Hong in … [Read more...] about Exploring Samut Sakon, Thailand
