Part 2 of our adventures in Bangkok: At Silom MRT we started to make our way over to Roadhouse Barbecue restaurant, but walked through the Patpong area before it got dark. I’ve really wanted to go here after dark during rainy season because I wanted to get pictures of the lights and reflections. It had been quite a while since I’d been down there, and everything seemed sort of normal. I got some nice shots, even in the late afternoon. The plan was to eat and come back for more pictures.
We had some wings, Caesar salad, and Carolina-style Cole slaw at Roadhouse BBQ. It was delicious, as usual. A hearty meal for a rainy day. After drying out in there for a while, we headed back out into the drizzle. We made our way back to Patpong, and it really changes after it gets dark! On both sides of the street, in front of almost every business there are rows attractive women sitting and waiting. I joked to Crystal, asking what they’re waiting for? Do you pick one and they help you at the drug store or money exchange place? 😉
They’re all very friendly, in any case. But, I wasn’t there other than to take photos. On this particular street I got some good photos! Lots of water on the street helped to get some great reflections. At some points I was standing right in front of these ladies on the sidewalk taking photos. Some of the handlers (not sure what to call them) were a little perturbed at me taking photos. I wasn’t there to take photos of the women!
We moved along towards the seedier area of Patpong, and I found a few good spots, but was generally disappointed. One area I had seen a couple years ago changed out the lights, and now it was just a normally lit sidewalk. How sad. You’ve no doubt heard about the infamous ping pong shows in Bangkok? We found the place: Superpussy. No, it’s not the name of a superhero movie but I’m sure the efforts of the performers might be considered heroic, or something like that.
We continued on back to the MRT and made our way back to the condo. It was still early enough that I decided to go for a Thai massage at the shop near our condo. I put in just over 15,000 steps on this day, and my lower back was really feeling it! My shoulder was suffering from how I slept the night before, but the masseuse got me more or less straightened out. I have known this masseuse for a few years now. I think I got one of my first massages from her about three and a half years ago! (Has it really been that long?) She knows a bit of English. It was nice to visit. She was asking me all about my trip, my favourite province, etc.
I enjoyed this day out. It reminded me of our early adventures in Bangkok when everything was new and interesting, and we’d go out wandering and exploring much more.
