Recently we went out and did something we’d never done before: whale watching! Most of the tours tend to be on weekends with the company we chose, but once a month they have a tour on a Monday. Perfect, as Crystal’s days off are Monday and Tuesday. We decided to spend the night at a hotel close to where the boat launch was, just because we didn’t want to have to get up … [Read more...] about Whale Watching in the Gulf of Thailand

Bangkok Street Food
Bangkok street food is the best, and tonight we just ate in our neighbourhood. We’ve got a bunch of go-to vendors that we see regularly, including the som tum guy. He makes the best papaya salad in Bangkok! It had been a while since we’d had street food. It was a nice change of pace. We’ll have to walk around the neighbourhood again and see if there are more new people … [Read more...] about Bangkok Street Food
Tuna Steak
For supper tonight we went again to Kabocha Sushi. We both ordered the tuna steak, and it was truly amazing. I could have eaten three plates of this. Even the cooked vegetables that came with it were amazing! I also enjoyed the mayonnaise for the tuna, along with a green onion purée that I put on the vegetables. To start, we had edamame and miniature fish skeletons. I don’t … [Read more...] about Tuna Steak
Exploring Samut Sakon, Thailand
An opportunity recently arose to explore a different part of Bangkok and I, of course, jumped at it. A friend had an appointment in the southwest part of Bangkok, so I offered to give them a ride. While they were busy there, I continued on to Samut Sakhon, which is along the coast. I’ve been exploring Google Maps for interesting things to see, and Wat Noi Nang Hong in … [Read more...] about Exploring Samut Sakon, Thailand
Syrian Restaurant in Penang, Malaysia
With all the great food we have eaten on our trip to Malaysia, I think we’d both have to agree that our favourite has been the chicken shawarmas at this Syrian restaurant. They are the best we have ever had. We had an Arabic salad with them too. I hadn’t expected this to be our favourite place, and we will definitely be back! … [Read more...] about Syrian Restaurant in Penang, Malaysia
Hameediyah Restaurant – Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia
Our supper experience the first day was different! We ended up at Hameediyah Restaurant, an Indian Muslim restaurant we’d found when we … [Read more...] about Hameediyah Restaurant – Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia
The Mugshot – Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia
Continuing the theme we’d set for the day yesterday, we moved from our location for breakfast to a coffee shop just down the street. The coffee was good, and we shared a table with a couple of expats who also live in Thailand; one from the US, and one from New Zealand. Had a great conversation and Crystal found a potential employee too. It was fun sharing travel … [Read more...] about The Mugshot – Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia
Gravy Baby – Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia
Kicking off our five-day holiday in Penang was a 6:30 a.m. flight. It wasn’t voluntary, believe me. Our original flight had been at 10:30 a.m. We did manage to get in bed early, but the alarm went off at a brutal 3 a.m. I didn’t want to drive to the airport so early, but at least there was almost no traffic. The two-hour flight to Penang was fine and we both slept through … [Read more...] about Gravy Baby – Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia
Food Truck Bazaar at Icon Siam
Back at our favourite mall tonight, Icon Siam, and this time it is for the Food Truck Bazaar. Lots of interesting choices! We both had a bacon curry dog with the smokewurst sausage. Also had chicken kebabs. Both were very good! It is a nice cool evening, with a good breeze, so it’s very pleasant outside. … [Read more...] about Food Truck Bazaar at Icon Siam
Roadhouse BBQ Wing Night – Bangkok, Thailand
Decided to introduce Crystal to Roadhouse BBQ wing night (on Mondays). The wings were a bit bigger tonight than when I was here last. It was buy 10, get 10, and we are stuffed! Had a salad, cornbread, and the Carolina style cole slaw. Very tasty! I have often commented that restaurants should have nap rooms. Tonight I need it! That’s okay. We took transit tonight … [Read more...] about Roadhouse BBQ Wing Night – Bangkok, Thailand
